Forest development corporation to use renewable energy sources now

The Uttarakhand Forest Development Corporation will incorporate the use of solar energy at its depots in the plains and wind energy in the mountainous regions. In addition to this the corporation will also become the first body of its kind in India to introduce radio frequency identification device (RFID) at its depots, said the corporation chairman Kunwar Pranav Singh ‘Champion’ while informing the media about the important decisions taken in the 39th meeting of the UFDC Governing body in Dehradun on Thursday.

Singh said that in spite of being informed in writing, even the additional secretary, Forest did not attend the meeting which is a sign of the apathy of bureaucrats. Speaking about the decisions taken in the general body meeting, the UFDC chairman said that the corporation will establish one stone crusher each at Haldwani and Haridwar.

Two stores will be constructed for micro-minerals as these are costlier off-season. The establishment of these stores will enable the people to procure micro-minerals at nominal rates. The corporation will make separate budgetary provision for facilitating certification of timber and other forest products so that they may be exported. “We will utilise solar energy at our depots in the plains and wind energy in the mountainous regions.  Apart from this we will also introduce RFID at its depots so as to keep a precise record of the trucks entering and exiting these, which in turn is intended at minimising anomalies in the collection and transport of timber and quarried materials.

The corporation will also regularise 14 out of 23 daily wager drivers working in the corporation on the basis of seniority while 18 other daily wagers including scalers and watchmen will also be regularised apart from which the UFDC will also facilitate technical training for farmers of the State to increase their work efficiency,” said Singh.

The corporation chairman has donated his one month’s salary and requested the staff to donate a day’s salary with the governing body approving a donation of Rs21 lakh to the chief minister’s relief fund in view of the natural calamities experienced in different parts of the State.
