In a fresh twist to the sensational November 17 shootout case at a New Delhi farmhouse in which liquor baron Ponty Chadha and his brother Hardeep was killed, Delhi Police today arrested the sacked chairman of Uttarakhand Minorities Commission , Sukhdev Singh Namdhari , from his Bajpur farmhouse in Udham Singh Nagar district in the hill state of Uttarakhand.
Namdhari, considered to be a right-hand man of Ponty Chadha, was present during the shootout at the Chattarpur farmhouse.
“In the Ponty Chadha murder case, Namdhari has been arrested this
afternoon from his Bajpur farmhouse in Udham Singh Nagar district,”
Uttarakhand Inspector General (Law and Order) R S Meena told Business Standard. Following his arrest, Namdhari was taken to New Delhi, Meena added.
A team of Delhi Police personnel had arrived at Bajpur last evening
and questioned a couple of persons close to Namdhari, and this led the
team to the man wanted in the case.
Senior police officers following the developments said they were
surprised that Namdhari, who was sitting next to Ponty Chadha at the
time of the shootout, did not receive a single bullet. Namdhari had
filed an FIR immediately after the shootout.
Namdhari told the police that he had never gone into hiding and would fully cooperate with the investigation.
In the FIR, Namdhari claimed his gunman, Sachin Tyagi, had opened fire on Hardeep in self-defence.
