Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna said that science and
information technology have important roles to play in economic
development. Science and environment complement each other while balance
between environmental conservation and economic development is
necessary for sustainable progress, said the Chief Minister after
inaugurating the seventh Uttarakhand State Science and Technology
Congress organised by the Uttarakhand State council for Science and
Technology (UCOST) at Graphic Era University in Dehradun on Wednesday.
Bahuguna said that there is immense potential for development in
Uttarakhand. Science and technology have a vital role to play in
ensuring the use of natural resources for development without
compromising on environmental conservation.
“Climate and environment are vital factors in Uttarakhand as the
glaciers and rivers originating here affect the global climate,” said
the CM while stressing on the need for more attention on research and
development in the State. The State Government is eager to encourage
science education, said Bahuguna.
Around 120 scientists from various fields are participating as experts
apart from 594 researchers from all around Uttarakhand. Brain storming
sessions would be held in the congress on nuclear science and
technology, sustainability and recycling of hydrocarbons, science and
innovation, women in science and technology and prospects of applied
mathematics.
