DEHRADUN: The Uttarakhand government has decided to honour India's Under-19 World Cup winning captain Unmukt Chand, who hails from the state, with a cash award of Rs 11 lakh for his outstanding achievement in the field of cricket.
Making the announcement on Thursday, Uttarakhand chief minister Vijay Bahuguna
said there was no dearth of sporting talent in the state and all
incentives will be given to promising sportspersons to help them hone
their skills.
After laying the foundation stone of the Rajiv
Gandhi International Cricket stadium and complex, the chief minister
said it was a step towards encouraging sporting activity in the state.
Promising to give proper encouragement to adventure sports, he said the Adventure Sports Academy being built in Tehri at a cost of Rs 20 crore was a step in that direction.
The cricket stadium and complex in the city is being built over an area of 25 acres at an estimated cost of Rs 250 crore.
