Uttarakhand Saras Mela turns out to be a crowd-puller

A large number of people thronged Uttarakhand Saras Mela on Parade Ground and purchased various articles on Sunday. Visitors are showing interest in organic items vegetables, food grains, fruits, pulses, warm clothes and other items which were produced in the mountainous parts of the State. This fair is jointly organised by Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India and Department of Rural Development, Uttarakhand.

The Mela Officer Indudhar Bourai said the rural artisans of all districts of Uttarakhand have displayed their products like woollen shawls, soft toys, hand embroidery, hand printed textile, bamboo craft, cotton wall hangings, hand-printed sarees, clay items and other articles. Apart from this, around 250 self help groups from Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Kerala, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu and Bihar have installed their stalls in the Mela.

He said, “It is a big platform for the rural artisans to exchange their designs. The quality of the quilts and other products is good while the price is also reasonable in comparison to market,”

He further said that there are number of items to attract the public to the event which will help traditional artisans and craftsmen of the country. Cultural programmes are also held at the venue during the evening.
