Quality education must in Govt schools, says Garhwal MP

 The Education department should lay emphasis on providing quality education to the students of Government schools, said Garhwal MP Satpal Maharaj while addressing the players of different districts on the concluding day of the 13th State-Level Athletics Competition-2012 at Police line in Dehradun on Sunday.

State Education Minister Mantri Prasad Naithani declared Maharana Pratap Sports College champion of the competition and awarded medals to the students who secured first, second and third positions in the  competition. In his address, Maharaj appreciated the department for conducting the competition successfully and laid emphasis on providing quality education in the Government schools. He commended the performance of students in the cultural programme which provided a glimpse into the culture of Uttarakhand. He exhorted students to play sports with passion to achieve high standards.

Education Minister Naithani said that players who secured first and second positions in this competition will be sent for national level competition with the State Government bearing the expenditure.  He directed the department to submit a proposal for the promotion of Physical Education Teacher (PET) upto the post of lecturer. Mamta Bhatt of Dehradun and Rahul Kumar of Pithoragarh secured first position on 100 metres and 200 metres under 19 girls and boys on individual category respectively. Parul of Rudraprayag in under 17 girls and Sachin of Maharana Pratap Sports College in under 17 boys declared  champion.

In under 19 boys, Sanjay Bisht of Pithoragarh secured first position in 400 metre, 800 metre, 1500 metre followed by Ashish of Maharana Pratap Sports College. In under19 girls, Jyoti of Rudraprayag in 200 metre, 400 metre and 800 metre secured top followed by Puja and Anjana.
A total of 760 students, including 355 girls, participated in the different sports which began on December 16. In the under-19 boys 1,500 metre run, Sanjay Bisht of Pithoragarh secured top position followed by Vinod Rawat of Maharana Pratap Sports College. In the under 14 girls 400 metre run, Santosh Thakur of Uttarkashi secured first position followed by Gauri of Rudraprayag and Bharti Pundir of Chamoli.

Among those present on the occasion were Additional Secretary, PS Jangpangi, director CS Gwal, additional director Seema Jaunsari, NK Bahuguna, district education officer SP Khali, Congress State vice president Suryakant Dhasmana and GIC Principal Kailesh Chandra Maithani and other education officers and principals.
