Uttarakhand to make mandatory for doctors to serve people in hilly areas

"As per the new policy, it will be compulsory for doctors to offer their services for a certain period of time in hilly terrain which suffer from paucity of medicos. Doctors who serve people in remote hilly terrain for more than their allotted time will also get financial incentives," Chief Secretary Subhash Kumar said in Dehradun.

Doctors who willingly offer their services in remote hill areas of the state for longer than their allotted time will get 10 percent more salary per annum, he said.

The policy is in the process of being framed and it is yet to be decided as to how long a doctor will have to serve in the hills mandatorily, the chief secretary said.
