The Uttarakhand Cabinet has decided to regularise land under the category IV, provide a subsidy of Rs 23.24 crore to clear the dues of private sugar mills and bring a Bill in the Assembly for providing 10 per cent horizontal reservation to the statehood activists.
The move to regularise land came after former chief minister Vijay Bahuguna threatened to hold a "Jan Akrosh" rally on February 15 in Udham Singh Nagar district against the Rawat government if decisions taken during his chief ministership were not implemented within a fortnight.
In a letter, Bahuguna had reminded Chief Minister Harish Rawat the decision of regularisation of land under the categories IV and 1 (A) was causing great resentment among the people. Bahuguna's demand was being seen as a pressure tactic to get plum posts for his men.
Rawat, after holding talks with the party high command, decided to accept the demand of Bahuguna. A Cabinet meeting, held on Tuesday evening, decided to accept most of the demands.
Under a separate Cabinet decision, the government has decided to provide a subsidy of Rs 23.24 crore of Rs 52 crore to be paid to farmers, which were owed to private sugar mills. The rest of the amount will now be paid by them.
In yet another decision, the government has decided to provide 10 per cent horizontal reservation in jobs to statehood activities. A Bill in this regard will be introduced in the Assembly to override the state high court's order in this regard which had earlier cancelled the government's decision.
