Uttarakhand Cong. takes stir to Delhi

Congress leaders from Uttarakhand will begin a protest from Thursday outside the residence of BJP MPs, accusing the Centre of “ignoring the interests” of the hill state.

The first part of agitation named ‘Give Uttarakhand its right and justice’ will begin with a protest called “Jawab Do, Hisab Do” by Uttarakhand Congress leaders outside the residence of former Chief Minister and BJP MP from Haridwar Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank.

Talking to reporters at a press conference here, state chief Kishor Upadhyay alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going back on the promises he had made to the people of Uttarakhand in the run up to the last Lok Sabha polls and BJP MPs from the state have “shut their eyes”.

“Ever since the BJP government has come to power at the Centre, the interests of Uttarakhand are being ignored,” he said.

The state Congress chief also demanded a special industrial package for the hill state and a separate package of Rs 10,000 crore.

Mr. Upadhyay also demanded that the “cut of Rs 5000 crore made in Union Budget for Uttarakhand” be given back to it and a sum of Rs 1000 crore should be sanctioned for Ardha Kumbh in Haridwar.

He claimed that the UPA governments led by Congress at the Centre never adopted a casual approach towards the interests of Uttarakhand.

The Congress workers will also hold protest against the Union Ministers whenever and wherever they visit Uttarakhand. -- PTI
