Tribune News Service

Dehradun, August 19
A bus service from Dehradun to Munsiyari in Pithoragarh district will be started within a week. Volvo and deluxe bus services to remote areas of the state will also be launched. Chief Minister Harish Rawat stated this while chairing a meeting of Transport Department officials at the Bijapur guesthouse here today. He stressed the need to upgrade and develop the commercial potential of transport in the state.

The Transport Department will arrange Rs 25 crore through bank loan for the projects and the state government will provide the bank guarantee. The government will give advertisements at bus stations to enable these to generate revenue. Two major integrated bus circuits, namely Dehradun circuit (Dehradun-Roorkee-Vikasnagar) and Roorkee circuit (Haldwani-Almora-Nainital), will be developed soon.

Rawat directed the department officials to lay down the foundation stone for new bus stations at Ramnagar, Srinagar, Bazpur, Kaleeshwar, Bhagwanpur, Rudrapur and Champawat and introduce 400 new buses. He directed them to look into the possibility of developing an integrated transport circle at Harrawala, considering the large traffic volume at the Dehradun depot.

He said the department would soon run additional Volvo and other luxury buses in remote areas of the state and the frequency of buses on various routes would be increased. “Bus service from Dehradun to Munsiyari will be started within a week and the construction work of the Laksar bus station will be completed soon. A depot at Tadikhet, near Ranikhet, will be developed. The inter-state bus terminus at Ramnagar will be completed in September and a deluxe bus service from Dehradun to Pithoragarh will also be started soon,” he said at the meeting.

The Chief Minister said the Transport Department would begin a bus service from Delhi to Jan-ki Chatti near Yamunotri. It would acquire land for a bus stand at Joshiyara in Uttarkashi district, bring a proposal of a roadways station at Jaspur through the Udham Singh Nagar District Magistrate and construct a bus depot at New Tehri through the MLA LAD fund.

He directed the officials to construct a bus station at Ghansali on the land given by the Tehri District Magistrate. He told them to complete the work on the Rudrapur bus station under the built-operate-transfer mode.
