Nine new tourism projects in Uttarakhand

DEHRADUN: The Uttarakhand Government has signed 9 memorandums of intent for projects across various themes at the Inaugural Incredible India Tourism Investors Summit 2016. Agreements were signed during the summit in New Delhi to set up tent Cities, wellness resorts, yoga and wellness institutes, a hill resort in Tehri Lake and dakbunglaw operations and maintenance worth Rs 507 crore in Uttarakhand.

Sailesh Bagauli, secretary Tourism, said, "We are overwhelmed to have received such an enthusiastic response from investors who are keen to invest in tourism sector in Uttarakhand. The state government is fully committed to support all stakeholders contributing towards growth and development of tourism in the State. Our single window mechanism is a proactive step towards facilitating ease of doing business in the state."

The three days' summit organized by the ministry of tourism in New Delhi's Vigyan Bhawan on September 23 onwards is an initiative of the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, in association with Tourism Finance Corporation of India (TFCI) and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

"We did not have investors for projects in and around Tehri Lake despite jolding promotional annual festivals because tenders were never floated there by the state government machinary. But now in all these nine projects, tenders would be held. The state government has already approved projects related to wellness resorts, floating huts, adventure sports in academies at Tehri lake," said Bagauli.

He said that government has also approved tourism projects for which concepts are being invited at Jharipani and Khanij Nagar at Rishikesh." He said that the way hundreds of tents erected in Kutch to celebrate Ranotsav fascinate tourists every year, they also plan to hold various events around this concept at different places of the state in near future. However the selected companies will place their proposals with regard to all the projects which will be selected through tendering.
