Prabhakar Joshi, counsel for the petitioner said, “The board is functioning arbitrarily while indulging in corruption and illegal construction. Elected representatives have no say in the decisions.”
The petitioner in his plea mentioning an incident said that after an agenda was not agreed upon in a meeting of 13 members, it was adjourned by the members going against Cantonment Board Act, 2006.
Of the total 13 members, seven are elected every three years while six are Indian Army officials.
The board has a jurisdiction of over 1.5 sq km in the hill town with a population of around two lakh.
“We protested the decision and sought investigation but was denied. Hence, filing a petition was the only way to get justice,” said Mohan.
