BJP attacks Uttarakhand govt for not paying arrears to police

BJP today accused the Uttarakhand Government of not paying salary arrears to police personnel as per the 6th Pay Commission's recommendation citing lack of funds.

Justifying the demand of around 21,000 Sub-Inspectors, head constables and constables of removing the disparity in salary, Leader of Opposition in State Assembly Ajay Bhatt said that the state government is citing lack of funds for paying the arrears although it is spending crores of rupees for holding Assembly session at Gairsain and cabinet meetings at various locations.

Questioning that when police officials above the rank of Inspector had received the benefits of 6th Pay Commission in 2006 than why the others were ignored, Bhatt said, "It is not right to have two different set of rules for employees of same department."

He warned that if the "justified" demands of the police personnel is not met than BJP will launch a movement against the government.

Some police personnel had yesterday protested for their demands stating that recommendations of 6th Pay Commission were implemented for them in 2012, however, arrears remained unpaid, Bhatt said.

Over Assembly session to be held at Gairsain in September this year, Bhatt said that government should rent houses lying vacant in the town which will not only improve the financial condition of locals but they will get a chance "to stay closer to government".

Bandh failed to evoke response

STAFF WRITER 18:51 HRS IST

Dehradun, Oct 2(PTI) A day-long bandh, called by various social organisations demanding to declare Gairsain as the permanent capital of Uttarakhand failed to evoke any response here.

The activists under the banner of Gairsain Rajdhani Sangharsh Morcha today took out a rally in the city.

Convenor of Morcha Nirmala Bist claimed that the bandh was complete and successful and said that they would intensify the stir, if their demand of setting up of permanent capital in Gairsain in Chamoli district was not met.

Elaborate security arrangements were made for the bandh, however, no untoward incident was reported from anywhere, police said.

Normal traffic was seen plying on roads, while most of the markets and other commercial establishments were closed due to Gandhi Jayanti.

Reports reaching here from different places of the state also said that the bandh call did not evoke much response.
