The Uttarakhand government today decided to set up a two-member committee on revision of wages of state government employees on the lines of Sixth Pay Commission recommendations.
The decision came at a cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister B C Khanduri, top officials said.
The two-member committee is headed by former union petroleum and natural gas secretary Sushil Kumar Tripathi. State Finance Secretary Radha Raturi is the other member. The committee would submit its report within six months.
At present, the state government has a strength of 1.6 lakh employees even as a total of 65,000 jobs are lying vacant.
The state employees are hoping that they would get a hike of 25 percent.
The main challenge before the state would be to generate its new sources of income so that it may not feel the pinch of the pay commission recommendations, official sources said.
