BJP calls Uttarakhand budget progressive

Dehra Dun, Mar 23 (PTI) Reacting on expected lines, BJP today hailed the budget presented by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank as progressive and promoting women empowerment and industrial growth in the state. In a statement, BJP's national spokesman Tarun Vijay said the budget is a big effort in the direction of poverty elimination and women empowerment. Mentioning Atal foodgrain scheme, Vijay claimed that Uttarakhand is the first state in the country which has ensured that no one sleeps on an empty stomach in the state by providing foodgrains at cheaper rates having a budgetary allocation of Rs 295 crore. Similarly, Uttarakhand has become the first state in the country to announce free lap-tops to meritorious students securing 80 per cent and above marks in state intermediate board exams, he claimed. He said the budget has also increased the allocation for women empowerment to Rs 1,851.55 crore.
