Shortage of doctors in Uttarakhand: minister

Dehra Dun, Mar 28 (PTI) The Uttarakhand government today admitted that there was shortage of doctors in the state, in spite of setting up six trauma centres over the past two years. Replying to a question by Mayukh Mahar (Cong) in the State Assembly, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prakash Pant said out of the six, two trauma centres at Gopeshwar and Almora could not be made operational for some reason and government would make efforts to start work in the centres as soon as possible. The trauma centres at Pithoragarh, Uttarkashi and Lohaghaat were also at different stages of construction, the minister said. Pant said the required number of doctors were not posted in the trauma centres due to their shortage in the state.Every trauma centre requires six doctors but only eight doctors were available in all the four operational centres in the state, he added. Pant said government would start getting doctors for hospitals from medical colleges from this year and it would help in ending the shortage of doctors.
