With snow melting UJVNL readies for more generation

Dehradun, March 11 -- Since the frozen rivers have starting melting in the higher regions of Uttarakhand, Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (UJVNL) has pulled up its socks to generate maximum electricity by optimum use of turbines in different localities of the State. Officials told that request for proposals (RFPs) have been sought from different private companies to carry out renovation and repair works in the hydro power projects of the State.

The power scenario was not good as the State was reeling under acute power shortage last year. In order to meet the daily power requirement of the State, the Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) had implemented scheduled power cut across the State. But the situation has improved with the UJVNL achieved its target in terms of power generation.

The latest data compiled by the department clearly highlighted that Tiloth power project being undertaken achieved its target before due date by generating more than 480 MU (Million Unit) electricity in the current financial year. Additionally, Chibbro power plant has generated 756.162 MU of electricity against the target of 756.00 MU of electricity. It is noteworthy that the UJVNL has achieved the target of 256.750 MU of electricity and generated 283.847 MU of electricity. It is a matter of pride for the department that Khodri, Maneri Bhalli-II and Ram Ganga power generated power projects have achieved their target before due date. It is equally important to mention here is that UJVNL has generated 4604.083 MU of electricity against the target of 504.073 MU of electricity till now. Official sources told that department is planning to renovate few hydro power projects to achieve the target well before time. It seems that that power scenario will be much favourable this summer.

While speaking to The Pioneer, GP Patel, Managing Director, UJVNL said that stern instructions have been given to officials for carrying repair and renovation works in different power stations of the State. According to him, timely monitoring of turbines and other vital parts of the machines has helped the department to achieve targets well before time. He expressed his hope that the projects will continue to achieve target in the near future also. "Maintaining adequate water levels in dams and reservoir is the main focus of the department for the power generation," he maintained, adding that department is able to set new records and achieve its targets on time due to the number of maintenance works and safety initiatives being undertaken besides lowering the technical snags.
