Five killed as bus falls into Ganga

Tehri (Uttarakhand), Jun 19 (PTI) Five persons were today killed and four others feared drowned when a jeep in which they were travelling fell into Ganga river at Kuriyala area here, police said. The incident took place when the driver of the jeep, en route to Rishikesh from Pauri, lost control over the vehicle while negotiating a U-turn and it fell into the river. Five bodies have so far been fished out of the river and two of them have been identified as 35-year-old Manoj Rawat, the driver, and Chhuma Devi (60). Efforts are on to trace the remaining four with the police saying the chances of their survival seem very remote. The victims were locals, contrary to the earlier reports which said the passengers were pilgrims and returning from Chardham yatra.
