Haridwar, Nov 29 (PTI) Uttarakhand Chief Minister B C Khanduri today termed the demand of Swami Shivanand for ban on quarrying in the entire stretch of Ganga as "illogical". "Swami Shivanand's earlier demand of banning quarrying in Ganga in Kumbh area of Haridwar has already been fulfilled, but his fresh demand of stopping quarrying in the entire Ganga river is illogical," Khanduri told reporters after his visit to famous Daksha temple here. The chief minister, however, said he is constantly monitoring the quarrying works in Ganga to ensure that it is not done in banned areas. Meanwhile the fast of Swami Shivanand, the founder head of Haridwar-based Matri Sadan ashram, entered into fifth day today. Shivanand had begun the fast on November 25, nearly five months after the death of his disciple Nigamanand over the demand of banning quarrying in Ganga in Haridwar's Kumbh area. The sixty five-year-old seer has said he would not break his fast until the Uttarakhand government issues a notification regarding banning quarrying in entire Ganga. PTI
