Amritpur (Uttarakhand), Nov 24 (ANI): In an effort to create a rescue team, Uttarakhand Government took the initiative to train the locals so that they are better equipped after natural calamities and are able to provide first aid to the victims at the earliest.
With the help of disaster management committee, the state government is setting up a team that can swiftly offer help to the injured victims.
The main thing is to give first aid to victims once you reach the disaster spot. After giving first aid one should know which category to put them in so that the doctors don't face problems while examining the victims. The doctor would not have to do a detailed examination and can quickly provide them necessary treatments," said Deepak Martolia, chief instructor and coordinator, disaster management committee.
"We are taught how to use the equipments that we have or those that we would have at that point in time like gunny bags, jute bags, ropes and wood, and how we can make a stretcher out of it, so that we can lessen the amount of casualties," he added.
Others at the training camp said the workshop would benefit them as well as the others.
Many also said that such training would enable people to give first aid to as many victims possible at the disaster spot.
"We are being taught how to act when there is an earthquake or a car falls off the cliff, and when we are not able to reach a place, then how we can reach the spot to pull people up and how to go down the cliff. We are also taught how to cross the river," said Devendra Singh Mehra, trainee.
The trainees were seen performing monkey crawl exercises, crossed rivers using a rope, and they were also seen climbing up and down the rocks.
Rescue operations in hill stations become a tedious and cumbersome job for the rescue teams.
Many rescue teams risk their lives by saving people in the hills and the state government felt the need to provide such training to more and more locals. (ANI)
