District and Session Judge Kumkum Rani sentenced three men to five years imprisonment and RS 8,000 fine each for their role in a dacoity at Lakshman Jhula area in 2005. An arrest warrant was issued for the fourth accused who did not appear in the court. The four were found guilty of robbing lakhs of rupees in cash and valuables from two families driving back in a vehicle from Neelkanth Mahadev temple.
Devi Lal alias Devla, Rajendra Singh and Vijendra Singh were sentenced while an arrest warrant was issued against Sunil Hudda. District Government council (Criminal) KP Dangwal said that according to the prosecution, Sandeep Singh Majethia, his wife Jasbeer Kaur and two children along with Mohan Verma, his wife Manpreet Kaur and one girl were returning from the Neelkanth Mahadev temple in their vehicle on the night of May 17, 2005. They found the road blocked by logs about 9 km before the barrage on Lakshman Jhula road. As Majethia stopped the vehicle some men approached the vehicle and started hammering it with heavy sticks. The driver reversed the vehicle but misjudged, causing the vehicle to fall in a gorge off the road.
The accused men rescued the vehicle occupants only after they handed over all their cash and valuables to the assailants. The accused robbed Rs1,00,000 cash, gold ornaments from the Majethia family and `5000 cash, a gold ring, mobile phone and an ATM card from the Verma family before running away from the spot.
The victims reached the Lakshman Jhula police station where Majethia lodged a report at 1:30 am on May 17. The police registered a case of dacoity. Police investigation revealed that the accused belonged to Haryana. The Lakshman Jhula police found during investigation that Rohtak police had arrested Sunil Hudda, Devi Lal and Rajendra Singh after which a police team from Uttarakhand reached Rohtak. The Lakshman Jhula police took the accused in remand after they confessed to having committed the crime. The police also recovered the cash and valuables looted from the two families from different locations on the information of the accused.

Three out of the four accused were sentenced under sections 395 and 412 of the Indian Penal Code.
