Dehradun Police arrested two drug smugglers and recovered 500 gram heroin from them on Thursday. The price of the seized contraband is estimated to be around `70 lakh in the international market.
Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police Kewal Khurana said this while interacting with mediapersons on Thursday. The accused has been identified as Prashant Kumar and Khareshpal, natives of Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh. Khurana said that Raiwala police station in-charge Manoj Negi led a police team which was on zonal checking patrol in the night. At Khairikhurd, he was informed that two persons carrying hashish and other narcotics would go somewhere from Raiwala Railway station on Thursday night.
Based on intelligence reports, Negi and his team along with Special Operation Group team checked persons at the said site where the two accused were nabbed. The police recovered 200 gram heroin from Prashant Kumar and 300 gram heroin from Khareshpal among other narcotics.

During interrogation, the accused admitted that they had brought the contraband from the ISBT at New Delhi through middlemen. According to the accused, they were told by the middlemen to supply the drug to Dehradun for which they were promised a handsome amount of money. The contraband was to be supplied to the students of different professional institutes of Dehradun. SSP said that based on the interrogation report, the middlemen will be traced and steps will be taken to arrest them. The police have lodged an FIR under sections 8/18/20/60 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act against the duo. Uttarakhand Director General of Police Satyavrat Bansal GP and SSP Khurana announced cash rewards of `20,000 and
`2,500 respectively to the team members for nabbing the accused.
