Medical and health services were paralysed following the strike of lab technicians who demanded action from the State Government to redress their grievances. The agitators have lamented that the despite giving assurance, the State Government has failed to take effective steps to fulfill their demands even after more than six months had passed.
Dissatisfied lab technicians have also threatened to continue with their strike till their pending demands are met by the State Government. The agitators have also threatened to intensify their agitation if their demands were not met in the given time frame.
Hundreds of Government lab technicians under the banner of Uttarakhand Medical Lab Technician Association gathered at Doon Hospital, on Thursday morning after boycotting medical and health services.
They lamented that memorandum highlighting their demands was submitted many times to officials but steps are yet to initiated by the State Government to fulfill their demands. Meanwhile, all those patients who were advised by the medical officers to go for pathological investigations suffered a lot as several blood tests were not performed during the agitation. Long queues were noticeable in emergency department of Doon Group of Hospitals and patients suffering from fatal diseases were running from pillar to post to access to medical services in the Government hospital.
Association office-bearers warned the authorities to fulfil their pending demands or else they will boycott also emergency services from December 27. It is to be noted that Doon Hospital conducts nearly 200 pathological tests that were stalled on Thursday due to the strike by the lab technicians.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the issue, Manoj Kumar Mishra, State general secretary said that memorandum highlighting demands was submitted many times to top bureaucrats but no step was taken by the State Government to fulfil their year-long pending demands. Among those pending demands were increasing the grade pay of lab technicians, fulfilling vacant posts of lab technicians, closure of fake para-medical institutes or sanction no objection certificates, promotion of lab technicians up to senior lab technicians, sanctioning of allowance and perks to lab technicians etc and said that they will hit the road in the near future if their pending demands are not met by the State Government in the given time frame.
Association office-bearers cleared that they will not allow anybody performing their duties and continue to boycott the medical services. The association office-bearers lamented that State Health Minister Surendra Singh Negi has assured to fulfil their nine pending demands but steps were not taken to redress their grievances.
