Areas in higher altitudes like Tapovan, Malari, Joshimath, Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, Kailash Mansarovar route and Auli received moderate to heavy snowfall, while even areas at comparatively lower altitudes like Mussoorie, Dhanaulti and Surkanda experienced moderate to rather heavy rainfall on Thursday, said Anand Sharma, director of the Uttarakhand Meteorological Centre.
The State capital also witnessed light rain and cloudy skies compelled many Doon residents to remain indoors. Sharma attributed the thunder cloud development in plains and moderate to rather heavy rainfall and snowfall in mountainous regions to western disturbances and cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh advancing into parts of Uttarakhand.
