A delegation from the Industries Association of Uttarakhand met Uttarakhand Director General of Police Satyavrat Bansal and informed him about the various law and order related problems being faced in the industrial sector in the State.
According to IAU chairman Pankaj Gupta, industries are facing problems from undesirable elements grouping and resorting to extortion in the name of transport union at all industrial estates.
Another problem is the blockage of entrances to industrial estates due to roadside encroachments and parking of Vikrams and city buses on the center of the roads. The encroachers misbehave when asked to move, which is leaving a bad impression in the minds of people and investors. Illegal sale of liquor from stalls in and around industrial areas is also causing a problem.
The association has stressed on regular and periodical verification of immigrant labourers working in establishments while one officer in Police Headquarters should be designated for industry related law and order problems.
Gupta said that the traffic light at the entry of Patelnagar industrial area, which is also the road leading to Mahant Indiresh Hospital, is not adequately manned by the traffic police, with traffic not following traffic lights most of the time.
This often leads to chaotic situation and mismanaged traffic at a very busy intersection. Hawkers have mushroomed in this industrial area leading to haphazard parking by their customers. This has become a meeting point for antisocial elements which creates major problems in peak traffic times.
“We find that the common practice of keeping confiscated and recovered stolen vehicles in police chowkies and Thanas gives a bad picture and creates traffic hazard. There should be one common space in each district to keep such vehicles till they are disposed off. Most intersections in Dehradun are in a bad shape as the designated construction agencies do not finish work at these intersections leading to congestion and traffic blockages,” said Gupta.
