Uttarakhand: Filing of nomination for civic poll begins

DEHRADUN: Uttarakhand Election Commission on Monday began the process for filing nomination papers for civic bodies' polls in state slated to be held on April 28. Counting of votes and results will be concluded on April 30.

Uttarakhand Election Commissioner Harish Chand Joshi said while the exact number of candidates from different political parties like BJP Congress, and others who filed the nomination papers is yet to be known, the process of filing nomination papers will continue till April 12.

Nomination papers are being filed for 6 municipal corporations- Dehradun, Haridwar, Roorkee, Kashipur, Haldwani and Udham Singh Nagar, 28 municipal boards and 35 Nagar Panchyats in Uttarakhand's Garhwal and Kumaon divisions.

A senior officer in State Election Commission said paramilitary forces were deployed outside the offices of District Election Officers, and Assistant District Election officers in different district and tehsil headquarters to ensure free and peaceful process of nomination on the opening day.
