LUCKNOW: The 7-day UttarakhandMahotsava-2013, organised by KumaonParishad, Lucknow, came to end on Monday with the lighting of the lamp by minister for prisons and food and civil supplies RajendraChaudhary. The concluding day programme began with 'Om namahShivai' and 'Jai Ganesh, Jai Ganeshvandana' by the artistes of the KumaonParishad followed by a shobhayatra taken out by artistes of PindarGhatiUtthanSamiti, Chamoli. The other attraction of the programme was presentation of items by children of Sri Ram AudyogikAnathalaya. Attractive prizes were given to winners of various competitions organised in the first session of the Mahotsava. BinaPandey, SavitaGautam and PranitaBisht were given first, second and third prizes respectively in the mehndi competition.
Felicitation: Akhil Bharatiya Vaishya Mahasammelan, Uttar Pradesh, organised a felicitation ceremony for the senior members of the community in the city. Speaking on the occasion, Naresh Agarwal, MP ( Rajya Sabha), who was the chief guest, said that the Vaish Samaj should exhibit its unity to gain political power and all its sub-groups should get united to ensure rapid growth of the community. Girish Kumar, Dauji Gupta and sammelan's state president Natwar Goel were present on the occasion.
Panchayat: Bharatiya Kisan Union organised a kisan panchayat at the office of the cane commissioner on Monday. Farmers and their representatives coming from various districts of the state apprised of the problems of their districts. The main issue of the panchayat was the payment of outstanding dues of about Rs 6,000 crore to cane growers. The cane commissioner assured the farmers that their important demands would be accepted soon. He said that he would make every effort to request the government to pay all pending dues of the farmers.
