CM tells Uttarkashi, Pauri, Chamoli DMs to remain alert

Dehradun, June 23

In the wake of forecast of heavy rain at isolated places, especially in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag and Pauri, in the next 60 hours starting from the evening of June 24, Chief Minister Harish Rawat today directed all District Magistrates to comply with the advisory issued by the Met department.

He said all arrangements should be in place to ensure hassle-free Char Dham Yatra. He asked district disaster management committees to remain alert taking into account the Met warning. “All disaster control rooms and disaster management committees must be activated on immediate basis”, said the Chief Minister.

Notably, Met officials had warned of heavy rain in the Kedarnath region during the 2013 disaster. However, state disaster management officials did not take the forecast seriously.

The Chief Minister said the District Magistrates of Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag and Pauri should remain alert taking into account the possibility of heavy rain in their areas. He asked Public Works Department officials to identify vulnerable places prone to landslides and ensure timely clearance of the debris from roads.

The Met department has advised Char Dham pilgrims to carry raincoat, umbrella and jackets with them as the temperatures could go down.

Meanwhile, Met officials have forecast cloudy sky with one or two spells of moderate rain or thunder showers in Dehradun. The maximum and minimum temperatures in Dehradun are likely to be around 32ºC and 23ºC, respectively, in Dehradun.
