Continuous rains across Uttarakhand have thrown life out of gear at many places and hit the progress of Char Dham pilgrimage, specially at Kedarnath, but no major untoward incident was reported from anywhere so far.
As many as 1616 pilgrims had visited the Char Dhams and Hemkund Saheb yesterday, but as heavy rains lashed the hill state overnight, pilgrims were advised to stay in safe places today, official sources said.
As predicted by the weather department, medium to heavy rains with thunderstorm were being witnessed across the state, including the char dham circuit and parts of Kumaon division since last afternoon. The rains are expected to continue for next two days. In view of the inclement weather, pilgrims from Kedarnath were escorted back to Sonprayag and Gaurikund by police and SDRF personnel yesterday while many were waiting in Sonprayag for the weather to clear. The Kedarnath road was reported blocked in some places but Badrinath route was clear till this afternoon, sources said.
