Kolkata, Sep 26 (PTI) The sole Durga puja at Roorkee in Uttarakhand, which is patronised by the army and heads of the major institutes of the education town, is celebrating its golden jubilee this year.
The directors of the IIT Roorkee, the Central Building Research Institute and the National Institute of Hydrology are the patrons of the puja, Sugata Gangopadhyay, secretary of the puja committee, told PTI over phone from Roorkee.
The commandant of the Bengal Engineers Group, a regiment of the corps of engineers of the Indian Army, is also a patron of the puja, said Gangopadhyay, also professor of mathematics in IIT Roorkee.
Artisans come all the way from Katwa in West Bengal to make the idols.
