Munsiyari Hill Station


Munsiyari is situated in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand state at an elevation of 11500 ft. The aloofness is around 120 kms from Pithoragarh. It’s not much famed tourist spot but ideal and quiet well for tourism in Uttarakhand . Once you reach there you will see a panoramic vision of high peaks like Nandakot, Nandaghungti, Rambha, Shiplakot and Panchachuli. You can take pleasure in trekking to nearby places Khalia top 10 kms, Darkot 10 kms north of Munsiyari and Birthi falls (31 kms) is a 500 metre trek from the main road leading to Munsiyari. It’s a magnificent place to visit for trekking.

The entire Johari Population of Munsiyari would drift to their summer settlements to slot in trade with the arrival of spring. Although, Johars still deal in woollens and herbs, there are a number of Johars who have turned to agriculture and horticulture. Nonetheless they all are restricted to Munsiyari alone.

Munsiyari nestles at an altitude of 2135 metres. And the whole region is known as Johar valley.

Munsiyari is a stand for treks to Milam and Namik glaciers. The trek from Munsiyari to Milam Glacier, the source for Goriganga river is intriguing. Around Munsiyari are alpine lakes of Maheshwari Kund and Thamri Kund. Munsiyari Bugyal, an alpine meadow full of wild flowers is enchanting. Khalia Top and Betulidhar are suitable for skiing.
Besides housing the tehsil head office, Munsiyari is the centre as well as the gate way of the Johar constituency.

Places appeal watching:

Khaliya Top & Betuli Dhar: High elevation moderate slope meadows to be found at a distance of 7 kms, from Munsiyari. Ultimate site for skiing and adventure sports. Betuli Dhar is about 5 kms, from the Munsiyari.

Madkot:
Madkot is 22 kms, from Munsiyari. Madkot has hot water springs which cures rheumatism, aching pains, skin eruptions etc.

Birthi Fall:
Birthi fall is 19 kms, from Tejarn on the Munsiyari vehicle road. Birthi Falls are moderately fabulous for its waterfalls. Wayside facilities and fast food centre is also available.
Flora and Fauna (Munsiyari)

The inferior ranges come alive at some point in spring with birds and blossoms. At lower elevation we see Jays, the whistling thrush, finches, wagtails, the hawk Cuckoo, multi-coloured Cuckoo, the Lammergier, wild Hens ,Teetar Pheasants, at higher levels the magnificent surpant eagle, the Falcon, the exquisite Monal. Leopards, Panthers. Mountain Bears and the elusive Musk Deer found only in Munsiyari region make spottingwild life. The forest are abundant mix of Pine, Deodar, Oaks, Spruce, Cypress and the flowering Rhododendrons, lots of uncommon herbs and also the Morcilla.
