Tarikhet

Tarikhet (8 kms) : It is famous for the Gandhi Kuti and the temple of Golu Devta venerated in the Kumaon hills. The scenic hamlet on the way to Ramnagar from Ranikhet, Tarikhet is known for its role in the Indian independence Movement. The main attraction is the Gandhi Kuti, where Mahatma Gandhi once stayed during the freedom struggle. The contribution of this scenic village to the freedom struggle is marked. At this beautiful place, it seems as time has stopped. The old world rustic charm, peaceful and leisurely atmosphere is relaxing.

Gandhi kuti at Tarikhet

A small hut now known as Gandhi kuti where Mahatma Gandhi “our bapu” the great lover of peace and non-violence and the father of our nation stayed for a length of time during the freedom movement. He came here in search of peace of mind which he found.

Non- cooperation movement was started by Bhagirath Pandey and his associates in this region by establishing Prem Vidyalaya, which was visited by Gandhiji in year 1929.

How to reach Tarikhet:

The nearest airport happens to be at PantNagar (Nainital), at a distance of 127 kilometers. The nearest railhead for this small village (tarikhet) is Kathgodam, at a distance of 92 kilometers.
