Two arrested for smuggling liquor worth Rs 4 lakhs

Kotdwara, March 7 (PTI) A truck carrying liquor worth Rs four lakhs was seized and two persons in this connection have been arrested for allegedly smuggling liquor from Chandigarh into Garhwal district of Uttarakhand, police said.

A team led by Assistant Sub Inspector N S Bisht stopped the truck at the Givainsot barrier at Kotdwara yesterday and found a hidden cabin behind the driver''s seat, the SP Pushakar Jyoti district said, adding, two persons have been arrested.

Among the items recovered were 104 crates of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) whose value was ascertained to be around four lakhs, and four fake number plates of the truck, they said.
The truck has been seized and efforts are on to trace the person to whom the liqour was to be delivered.

Out of the duo, one person is still at large, police said, adding the search is on to trace him.
