HC asks Ukhand govt to reinstate suspended zila panchayat head

Nainital, Apr 26 (PTI) The Uttarakhand High Court today directed the state government to reinstate suspended Dehra Dun zila panchayat Chairperson Madhu Chauhan to the post. Pronouncing its judgement, a single-judge bench headed by Justice Tarun Agrawal ordered the state government to reinstate Chauhan to the post of Chairperson of Dehra Dun zila panchayat immediately, said Rajendra Dobhal, counsel of Chauhan. While passing the order, the court observed that the government took the decision to remove her from the post in haste without going into details regarding the complaints against her, he added. The state government had dismissed Chauhan on February 18 this year on charges of financial irregularities during allotment of various projects on the basis of a preliminary inquiry held by District Magistrate and Garhwal Commissioner which indicted her for allotting projects beyond her powers. It was also alleged that Chauhan spent 80 per cent funds of zila panchayat in Vikasnagar Assembly constituency, which was being represented by her husband Munna Singh Chauhan till he quit as a BJP MLA two years ago. Chauhan challenged the state government's decision of dismissing her in the High Court. When contacted, Advocate General S N Babulkar said the government would study the judgement before deciding the next legal course of action. Chauhan had won the elections as an independent candidate more than two years ago.
