Hindustan only Hindi daily to see growth in Uttarakhand

Hindustan continues on its growth path in Uttarakhand too, adding 1.04 lakh readers in a year, contributing to the growth of 3.34 per cent in the average issue readership (AIR) of ‘Any Hindi’ daily in the state. Meanwhile, growth of ‘Any English’ daily at 14.29 per cent as compared to last year, is led by Hindustan Times as it adds 16, 000 readers in a year.

Amar Ujala has maintained its leadership position in Uttarakhand, registering an AIR of 8.42 lakh, a marginal dip of 0.82 per cent. Dainik Jagran, meanwhile, has lost 42,000 readers in the state in a year’s time, taking its AIR to 5.78 lakh in IRS 2011 Q1. Hindustan has reported an AIR of 2.89 lakh, up from 1.85 lakh last year, and ranks third among the most read dailies in the state.

With a decline of 14.29 per cent in AIR, Rashtriya Sahara has garnered an AIR of 36,000. Amar Ujala Compact registered an AIR of 19,000. Both i-Next and Punjab Kesari have also witnessed declining AIR trends in the state.

The Times of India, with an AIR of 79,000, has reported a loss of 9,000 readers during the year. Hindustan Times, on the other hand, has positive trend in the state, recording an AIR of 39,000, up from 23,000 last year. English business newspaper the Economic Times (ET) has not seen any change in its average issue readership compared to the corresponding period last year, as it registers an AIR of 6,000 in IRS 2011 Q1.
