Baba Ramdev's trust gives up disputed land in Haridwar

Yoga guru Baba Ramdev's Patanjali Yogpeeth has given up its claim on a controversial piece of land in Aurangabad area of Uttarakhand's Haridwar district.

Yogpeeth on Monday voluntarily pulled down the boundary walls freeing the land under question, where its plush Yog Gram complex was located, following a village committee's protest.

The village committee had alleged that Yogpeeth had illegally occupied a large tract of land (43 bigha). The Haridwar district administration had conducted a preliminary probe into the alleged land grab by Yogpeeth following which the latter had submitted an application for land exchange.

Even as the district administration had not taken any decision on Yogpeeth's application, the latter decided to limit the boundaries of Yog Gram and give up its claim on the disputed land.

The development comes amidst developments against Ramdev, his close aide Balakrishna and their organisations. While the Enforcement Directorate (ED) was likely to begin a discreet probe into the offshore assets and investments made by Ramdev and the institutions affiliated to him for flouting foreign exchange laws, Balakrishna was booked by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday in Dehradun for violating the Passport Act by possessing more than one passport.
