Major Rajesh Singh Adhikari

Major Rajesh Singh Adhikari, MVC was an Indian Army officer who died during the Kargil War. He was posthumously awarded the second highest Indian military honour - the Maha Vir Chakra for bravery on the battlefield.

A graduate of Indian Military Academy, he joined Indian army in the 18 Grenadiers (Mech. Inf.) division. He saw action in the Kargil region of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir due to infiltration by militants backed by the Pakistan army. Many tough battles took place in the region. It was one of the most significant battles, the Battle of Tololing, where Rajesh made a valiant sacrifice. He was posthumously awarded the second highest Indian Army decoration - Maha Vir Chakra for his actions in the battle.

After his death there was some controversy as his mother (who earned a living by cutting grass)was left drinking her tears of sorrow for her only son all alone, as his wife took his posthumous benefits and moved on, without looking back or caring for the old lady.
