Sumitranandan Pant (1900-1977), was a renowned poet of Hindi Literature, who pioneered the chhyavadi format of Hindi poetry
Born on May 20, 1900, in the town of Kausani in Bageshwar district of Uttarakhand, he was influenced by nature, Mahatma Gandhi's call for satyagraha (civil disobedience) and Sri Aurobindo's philosophy. Therefore all his literary compositions have a unique mixture of nature and socialism.
He is best known for his poem Chidambara for which he received the Gyanpith award.
