Accelerate development''s pace in U''khand:Chief Secy to bankers

Dehra Dun, Aug 17 (PTI) Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Subhash Kumar today asked bankers to play an active role in accelerating the pace of development in the hill state.

Kumar, who was chairing a meeting of State Level Bankers'' Committee (SLBC) here, also asked them to open more branches of the banks in rural and semi-urban areas, an official release said.

Expressing satisfaction for registering the credit deposit (CD) ratio of 52.69 per cent, he hoped that the target of 60 per cent would also be achieved in the coming months. The CD Ratio of the state was 17 per cent when it was created in 2000, the release said.

The Chief Secretary directed the bankers to saturate all the 670 Atal Adarsh Grams with banks so that the dream of making such villages as model of development could be translated into a reality.

General Manager of State Bank of India Rakesh Sharma told the meeting that new branches of banks have been opened in 63 Atal Adarsh Grams out of 259 villages devoid of such facilities and the remaining villages would also be saturated with banking facilities shortly, it added.
