The Chief Minister said his main task was to bring the BJP back to power in the coming elections for which he was working “very hard”.

“I personally feel that the BJP should contest all the 70 seats alone since it is big party,” Khanduri, who became the chief minister of the hill state for the second time on 11 September, said.
Khanduri’s statement will come as a setback for its coalition partner, Uttarakhand Kranti Dal led by Revenue Minister Diwakar Bhatt, which wants a political tie up with the saffron party to contest the February polls.
“The recent change of guard in Uttarakhand is also a well planned poll strategy of the BJP. My main focus is to bring BJP back to power for which I am working very hard,” he said.
He said his government has already taken a series of new initiatives to fight corruption which include bringing a new bill in the state assembly on the transfer policy, creation of a new department for good governance and elimination of corruption.
In addition to this, Khanduri said his government would also bring a new bill on the lines of Bihar where benami property can be confiscated for a social cause.
On creation of four new districts, Khanduri said since his predecessor Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank had already made an official announcement, he would make sure that these new districts are formed as early as possible.
A lot of ground work like collecting data has to be done before the new districts are created, he said.
However, Khanduri remained non-committal on the creation of Kashipur as a fifth district, a demand being supported by state BJP president Bishan Singh Chufal.
Nishank had announced creation of four new districts—Yamunotri, Kotdwar, Didihaat and Ranikhet—in the hill state which currently has 13 districts.
Asked if he would like to contest from Dhumakot Assembly seat, Khanduri said it all depends on the high command.
The Chief Minister is also confident of victory as he said people are looking at BJP with high hopes as they are fed up with the “anti-people and wrong” policies of the UPA government at the Centre.
“People should understand that price rise is mainly due to the wrong policies of the Congress-led Central government.
We have also done a lot of good work during the past four years,” Khanduri said.
