Khanduri asks Union Planning Commission to provide Rs 400 cr

Dehra Dun, Sep 27 (PTI) Uttarakhand Chief Minister B C Khanduri today asked the Planning Commission to immediately provide the remaining Rs 400 crore of the sanctioned amount of central funded schemes so that development works could be carried out effectively.During a meeting with Planning Commission Member Saumitra Chowdhary, Khanduri said Rs 600 crore was sanctioned to Uttarakhand under various central government-funded schemes but only Rs 200 crore have so far been provided, said an official release here.In this regard, he said the remaining amount of Rs 400 crore should immediately be provided to the hill state for speedy execution of development works.The Chief Minister also pointed out that the cost of the projects in hilly areas comes 1.5 times more than the plain areas so the Uttarakhand should get the financial assistance keeping in view of tough geographical conditions of the state.Khanduri also sought adequate funds for expansion of roads, railway tracks and air strips in view of strategic significance of Uttarakhand as it shares boundaries with Nepal and China.He also asked Chowdhary to consider the demand of green bonus to the state as it is providing ecological services to the country by maintaining forests on 65 percent of its area.Chowdhary assured the Chief Minister of taking up the matter while deciding the assistance for the hill state, the release said.
