DEHRADUN: Union Minister Harish Rawat on Thursday expressed hope that a strong and effective Lokpal Act against corruption would be enacted by the end of this year.
"If eveything goes as per plans, we will try to enact a strong and effective Lokpal before the year ends," the Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs told reporters here.
He said the suggestions of Team Anna are being incorporated as the central points in the draft bill and the consent of state governments would also be taken in this regard.
"If we could not bring the bill in the current session, we would try to table it in the Winter Session of Parliament," Rawat said.
The minister described social activist Anna Hazare as the "catalyst" who galvanised the people against corruption but said the Centre had already prepared a common citizens' charter showing its commitment to uproot corruption.
Along with the Lokpal bill, other major bills which are expected to be passed in the Winter Session include security to RTI whistle-blowers, Land Acquisition and Food Security bills. "Most of these bills are expected to be passed in the Winter Session," he said.
