Relief for quake victims:
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Maj Gen (retd) BC Khanduri has announced Rs 3 crore as relief for Sikkim earthquake victims. The CM said the people of Uttarakhand stand in solidarity with the earthquake victims of Sikkim in their hour of grief.

Procession: Members of the Sarv Gurdwara Parbhandak Committee and Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Premnagar, took out a “Torchlit “ procession in a protest against the alleged desecration of Sikh scriptures in Pilibhit district of Uttar Pradesh bordering Uttarakhand. A large number of people took part in the protest march. Devender Sethi, secretary of the Gurdwara committee demanded that UP government should immediately take action against the culprits.

Transferred: Two Indian Police Service (IPS) officers were transferred by the Uttarakhand Government. SSP Haridwar Kewal Khurana has been made the SP Uttarakhand Crime Record Bureau while Pushkar Singh Selal, Commandant of the 46th battalion of the PAC, has been transferred to Haridwar as an SSP at the place of Khurana.

Protest: The residents of Teachers’ colony at Gobindgarh, Yamuna Colony and Shanti Vihar under the banner of local unit of Mahila Congress protested here outside the office of DM Sachin Kurve on Thursday. They told the DM that water up to four to five feet stagnates in their area during heavy rains and they are facing the same problem for 20 to 25 years.

Maintain records:
DM:
District Magistrate, Almora, DS Garbyal, has ordered his subordinates to maintain a record of people approaching them with their problems. These records are to be maintained by every department as directed by the CM, Major General (Retd) BC Khanduri. Garbyal said the problems that can be solved at the district level must not be referred to the state administration. He ordered the issues raised by the people must be dealt with immediately and a compliance report be sent to his office after registration of the complaints.

Citizens’ Charter in force: The Citizens’ Charter as announced by the Chief Minister, Major General (Retd) BC Khanduri, has been implemented in Nainital district from Thursday onwards. An order to this effect was given by District magistrate Shailesh Bagauli on Wednesday. It would facilitate provision of several relevant certificates to the people within a specified time of their having applied for the same. The officials responsible for any delay in issuing of these documents would face stringent action. The charter would also cover issuing of passports and No Objection Certificates (NOSs) for the petrol pumps.

2 youths arrested: The police and the District Supply Office personnel have nabbed two youths in Lal Kuan along with four LPG gas cylinders which they intended to sell illegally. They were nabbed while they were transporting the cylinders in a car. With the region being hit by a severe shortage of cooking gas, the black marketing of cylinders has been on the rise. The officials have started a drive to check the same.

Water crisis in village: Residents of Kyari village have approached the district administration, Nainital, to provide them with some help during the drinking water crisis being faced by them. They raised the issue at a meeting with Ramnagar Subdivisional Magistrate AK Nautiyal. They had earlier given a memorandum to the local administration. The people claim that at least 80 per cent of the residents of the village are facing the problem of water scarcity.
