Schools closed today: Considering the warning of heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours in the capital city by the Met Department, District Magistrate Sachin Kurve has ordered the closure of all government schools, government-aided and private schools on September 16. The order has been conveyed to all the schools in Dehradun through District Education Officer Geeta Nautiyal.

Fake officer held: The CBI on Thursday arrested a fake IAS officer from the Raiwala area. He was identified as Vipin Chand, a native of Almora. CBI sources confirmed the man was arrested from Raiwala and had been earning money through fraudulent ways posing as IAS officer. However, CBI officials refused to divulge information in the case saying the matter was under investigation.

Workers’ protest: Members of the MNREGA Rajya Sanvida Karamchari Union protested in front of the Secretariat in the city on Thursday demanding the contractual status for the MNREGA workers throughout the state. Three of the total 10 members who were holding fast on this issue from September 11 in front of the Vidhan Sabha had to be hospitalised a day before due to deterioration of their health. President of the union Dwarika Prasad Devli said it was high time they should be freed from the clutches of the NGOs which had been exploiting them for the past four years and designated as contractual employees, as was done all over the country.


MGNREGA:
Rs 17.42 cr for Champawat district:
A sum of Rs 17.42 crore has been allocated to Champawat district for the current financial year to be utilised for the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) programme. Disclosing this, the District Magistrate, Dr Pankaj Kumar Pandey, has stated that there is no shortage of money for getting works done under MGNREGA. He has asked the officials and agencies involved in the implementation of the programme to ensure that the works done are qualitative and must be completed within the given time frame. He has also asked the Block Development Officers (BDOs) to ensure that labourers are made payments well in time.

District Magistrate warns officials of action: The district administration in Champawat has warned the officials that the public works for which directions are issued from the office of the Chief Minister must be completed on a war footing failing which they would face action. District Magistrate Pankaj Kumar Pandey has expressed his annoyance over the failure of the officials to abide by the orders coming from the Chief Minister’s office with regards to the execution of the public works. He has also pointed out that the pace of disposal of matters pertaining to Right to Information (RTI), Women’s Commission, National Human Rights Commission and Minorities Welfare Commission has been sluggish. The officials have been asked to come up with concrete replies instead of filing interim reports with regards to various issues.

Pulse polio programme on Sept 25: The next phase of the pulse polio programme would be carried out in Nainital district on September 25. District Magistrate Shailesh Bagauli has directed that all the schools would remain open on the day to facilitate the administering of polio drops to the children below the age of five years. He has asked the officials entrusted with the job of carrying out the campaign to ensure that no child is left without polio drops. According to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Dr DS Garbyal, 1,15,115 children are to be administered polio drops on that day for which 608 booths have been set up. These include 38 transit booths and 53 mobile teams. He has claimed that there is no shortage of the polio vaccine.

Captured tiger brought to Nainital zoo for treatment: The tiger that had been captured from Himmatpur Dautiyal village on the outskirts of Ramnagar earlier this week has been brought to the Nainital zoo for treatment. The wild cat was trapped after it had created mayhem in the village where it had strayed in search of food. It had killed two cows there. It is learnt that besides being injured, it is also old and its canines are broken which might have led it to enter the human settlement. It has more than 20 injuries on its body.

Escaped undertrial rearrested: An undertrial at the Sitarganj open jail, who had fled from custody on August 3, has been rearrested by the police with the help of the jail authorities. Reports say that the accused Shabbir of Lal Kuan has been arrested from Rampur Tanda. It is learnt that he had fled to take revenge on his wife for having betrayed him. He was arrested following a tip-off given to the police by an informer.
