Alva, Khanduri greet people on Id: Uttarakhand Governor Margaret Alva and Chief Minister BC Khanduri greeted the people of the state on the occasion of Id-ul-Zuha. In her message, the Governor said: “This is the time to remember the greater spirit of supreme sacrifice of Hazrat Ibrahim and to be good of mankind”. The Chief Minister also greeted the people and said Uttarakhand was a state with great tradition of communal harmony and botherhood.

4 arrested: Sahaspur Police nabbed the four thieves who broke into MLA Rajkumar’s house couple of days ago at Sahaspur and recovered from them an amount of Rs 21,500, a country made revolver, a few cartridges and a scissile. The thieves have been identified as Mohammad Ramzani from Bijnaur, Sripal from Bareli, Bijender and Rinku from Sidhowala.

Theft at temple: Money from a donation box of a local temple situated at Kandoli village in Raipur was stolen today. The police has not been able to ascertain the amount stolen and nab the thieves till now.

Tunnel survey: Garhwal MP Satpal Maharaj hs given Rs 5 lakh from his MP fund to conduct a survey to trace the possibility of an underground tunnel at the Bijrani gate near Jim Corbett National Park which would help in carrying out the water flow from Phultal into the Kosi River. He said the project had been mooted to protect Bharatpuri, Pampapuri and Durapuri which come under Ram Nagar tehsil from any damage due to flooding.

Anganwari workers’ recruitment: District Administration in Champawat has initiated the process of recruiting Anganwadi workers, anganwadi assistants and mini anganwadi workers. In a statement, District Programme Officer with the child development department Dev Singh has appealed to the people to come forward with complaints if any official seeks graft with regards to the above mentioned appointments. He underlined that the appointments would be made in a completely transparent manner while adhering to the norms laid down by the government for recruitment to the said posts.

2 held for snatching chain: Haldwani Police claim to have nabbed the two youths involved in the incident of chain snatching from block president Shanti Bhatt while she was returning home on the Friday evening. The incident had taken place in the Adarsh Nagar area. When she raised a voice, the accused fled, leaving their motorcycle on the spot. The accused are students of a local degree college and come from a well-off family. They have been identified as Rajat Rawat of Malla Gorakhpur and Manish Sanwal of Nawabi Road localities. They were nabbed when the police traced their motorcycle. The two had allegedly resorted to the crime for getting some easy money.

Villagers block traffic: A large number of villagers residing close to Nainital have threatened to boycott the forthcoming Assembly polls if the government fails to fulfil its promise of constructing a road on the Fatehpur-Belbasani-Patwadangar stretch. The agitated villagers had blocked the traffic movement on the Nainital-Haldwani road on Saturday. They have threatened to repeat the action if no step was taken to resolve the matter by the end of this month.

Pedestrian crushed to death: A pedestrian was crushed to death by a speeding truck in Jaspur. The deceased has been identified as Abdul Rehman of Mohalla Julahan locality. He was a carpenter by profession and was going to Kaliyawala village when a truck coming from the oppoite direction hit him. He was taken to the nearest hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the doctors. Efforts are on by the police to locate the truck and its driver.

Bar-cum-restaurant raided: District administration officials in Bageshwar carried out a raid at a bar-cum-restaurant being illegally run adjacent to liquor vend in the town. The restaurant has been sealed. Officials said although there was a provision of running the restaurant adjacent to the vend but there was no provision of running a bar. It was further pointed out that even the liquor vend owner was running the facility by paying Rs 1.5 lakh without having procured the required license. The town has been witnessing an agitation by the students with regard to the shift of the vend atleast three kilometres away from its present location at the bus stand.
