Complaint against taxi driver: Another case of “sexual exploitation” has been reported from Rajiv Nagar. A 11-year- boy was allegedly sexually exploited by Rajender Kumar who lives near his house. The accused is absconding. The victim’s father has lodged a complaint against him at the Nehru Colony police post. A case has been registered against the accused, who is a taxi driver. The accused is also facing a rape case.

Labourer’s body found hanging: The body of Lalu, a labourer, was found hanging from a tree here on Monday. He used to live with one of his relatives in Sinola village in Rajpur. His post-mortem examination has been conducted.

Water shortage at Sahaspur: The block head of the Regional Committee, Sahaspur, Vipin Kumar convened a meeting of residents of the area with officials of the Drinking Water and Electricity Department to solve their problems. Kumar directed the officials to resolve their problems at the earliest. He also expressed concern over the absence of officials in such meetings due to which problems of the residents remained unsolved. Residents complained of damaged drinking water pipelines in the area, leading to the water shortage.

Turpentine seized: A large quantity of turpentine oil and other extracts of pine trees, which had been stashed away illegally, have been recovered by Forest Department officials from the Dalband area of Bainsiyachana Block in Almora district. The recovery followed a raid carried out at a factory on Sunday. Five persons have been taken into custody for an interrogation. The cost of the recovered material is said to be worth Rs 30 lakh. The material had been stashed away in trenches and in the toilets of the factory premises. Some material had also been stored in a false cabin built inside a truck.

1 killed, 8 hurt in accident: A young girl was killed while eight others were injured when the vehicle in which they were travelling hit a tree near Ramnagar. The accident took place near Chhoi village when the vehicle driver lost control in an attempt to save an animal on the road. The entire family of Mohammad Zakir of Indira Nagar locality in the Vanbhoolpura area of Haldwani was returning from Bijnore in Uttar Pradesh in the vehicle. It was following the impact of the vehicle hitting the tree that Zakir’s eight-month-old daughter Reshma Praveen died. The other injured in the accident are being treated in a hospital in Haldwani.

Cheetal attacked by dogs: A cheetal was badly injured after it was attacked by several dogs near Ramnagar. It is learnt that the cheetal had accidentally strayed near Kosi Barrage on Saturday evening. Seeing the animal, a group of dogs started moving towards it. This led to the cheetal entering the waters only to be followed by the attacking dogs. Although Forest Department officials reached the spot but they were helpless on account of the area being pitch dark. Later there was information of the cheetal being found lying injured near Puchari village.

Theft on trains continues: Despite claims of the Railway authorities to beef up security on trains, instances of thefts on trains plying between Kumaon, its adjoining areas and the national capital continue unabated. Over the last 15 days, there have been six cases of thefts reported by passengers of various trains. The latest has been the theft of a purse of a resident of Delhi while she was travelling on the Ranikhet Express on the night intervening Saturday and Sunday. She lost Rs 10,000 and some important documents.

Youth killed in mishap: A youth was killed after he was hit by an unknown vehicle in Rudrapur. The deceased has been identified as Neeraj Kholiya (27) of the Halduchaur area. He was returning home at around 1 am on the night intervening Saturday and Sunday when a vehicle coming from behind hit him. He was taken to a hospital but was declared brought dead by the doctors.
