Avian tourism to take flight at Terai-Bhanwar

More Uttarakhand News, about Uttarakahnd and more http://uttarakhandnews2k.blogspot.com/

With Uttarakhand’s Terai-Bhanwar region being one of the favourable destinations for a variety of domestic as well as migratory birds due to its rich flora and fauna, birdwatching is going to be the mainstay of the rural tourism soon in the famous hunter-turned-wildlife conservationist Edward James Corbett’s country, Chhoti Haldwani, in Kaladhungi.

The Corbett Gram Vikas Samiti is already running a lot of community-based tourism activities in Chhoti Haldwani, a small hamlet which was once rehabilitated by Corbett, in association with the State eco-tourism department and others.

The members of the CGVS here are of the view that bird-watching, if included in the map of rural tourism, could prove to be crucial in promoting community-based tourism in this region, which is already one of the most sought after tourist destinations following the long history of adventure in this region and its natural beauty.

There are more than 300 local bird species in this area. This apart, a variety of migratory birds, including Rudy Shell Duck, Tufted Duck, Common Poachard, Bar-headed Goose, Green Sand Piper, Malard to name a few also stay here during October/ November to March/April every year to save themselves from difficult subzero conditions.
