Landslide kills Army officer, jawan, porter in Uttarakhand

Three persons, including an army officer and a jawan, were killed in a landslide at the Kedardanda area located in the higher reaches of Uttarkashi district on Wednesday.

A Subedar Major, a jawan and a local porter were killed after being caught in the landslide when a five-member Army team was returning from routine patrolling of Kedar peak, Uttarkashi SP Rajiv Swarup said.

A Disaster Response Force contingent has been dispatched to the spot to help in rescue operations. A team from the Army's Harsil base camp regularly goes for patrolling of the peak, the SP said.

Meanwhile, no new bodies were recovered on Wednesday in the cloudburst-hit Ukhimath  area of Rudraprayag district. Dead toll remained stable at 52. However, reports said 15 persons are still missing.
