PWD set to repair roads damaged by calamities

Nearly after the gap of three months, the department concerned has pulled up its socks to repair damaged roads and connecting routes in the higher parts of the State. These roads were badly damaged due to the natural calamities that struck entire Uttarakhand a few months back. The department officials told that tenders have been sought to repair the damaged roads by the end of this year.
 
Those who are living in the higher parts of the State faced the brunt of broken roads due to natural calamities that struck. Due to the incessant rains and landslides, various routes in the higher parts of the State were damaged. Although Public Works Department (PWD) had cleared the routes and flow of traffic was also resumed but a few stretches of roads are yet to be repaired by the department.

Considering the plight of commuters, the department concerned has taken up a decision to repair the  roads as earliest. As per the information available, roads and pavement along the roads on Dunda-Dangwari, and Nakuri and Singrot in Uttarkashi district would be repaired. It is also equally noteworthy that  Chamba, Dharasu, Guptkashi-Kaalimath, Simli, Gandhigahdera, Devradaband, Thalaband, Nandprayag-Bairakund. Pokhri, Khanna, Gaaniyala, Kanda, Izzar, Tamundi, Naaldunga, etc. among are the few routes in the higher parts of the state that faced the brunt of natural calamities. Additionally, department is also planning to construct around one-dozen connecting roads and routes in the remote parts of Dehradun district. Well established sources revealed that couple of new connecting roads would be constructed only after receiving green signal from the forest department. If everything would go as per the department plans then Koti, Nada, Tarli, Tangri, Lachunband,  and Aara and adjoining routes will be connected to highway. It is also noteworthy that department has taken up a decision to repair all damaged roads and remove potholes on the roads by the end of this year, else it would be difficult for the department to repair the roads when mercury started decreasing in the near future. One of the department sources who wished anonymity told The Pioneer, that majority of the roads in the higher parts of the state was damaged after it was hit by the natural calamities few months back.  He claimed that all major connecting routes and potholes on the roads will be repaired before district witness rainfall in the coming days. He told that tenders were sought for repairing the roads.
