Nearly after the gap of three months, the department concerned
has pulled up its socks to repair damaged roads and connecting routes in
the higher parts of the State. These roads were badly damaged due to
the natural calamities that struck entire Uttarakhand a few months back.
The department officials told that tenders have been sought to repair
the damaged roads by the end of this year.
Those who are living in the higher parts of the State faced the brunt
of broken roads due to natural calamities that struck. Due to the
incessant rains and landslides, various routes in the higher parts of
the State were damaged. Although Public Works Department (PWD) had
cleared the routes and flow of traffic was also resumed but a few
stretches of roads are yet to be repaired by the department.
Considering the plight of commuters, the department concerned has taken
up a decision to repair the roads as earliest. As per the information
available, roads and pavement along the roads on Dunda-Dangwari, and
Nakuri and Singrot in Uttarkashi district would be repaired. It is also
equally noteworthy that Chamba, Dharasu, Guptkashi-Kaalimath, Simli,
Gandhigahdera, Devradaband, Thalaband, Nandprayag-Bairakund. Pokhri,
Khanna, Gaaniyala, Kanda, Izzar, Tamundi, Naaldunga, etc. among are the
few routes in the higher parts of the state that faced the brunt of
natural calamities. Additionally, department is also planning to
construct around one-dozen connecting roads and routes in the remote
parts of Dehradun district. Well established sources revealed that
couple of new connecting roads would be constructed only after receiving
green signal from the forest department. If everything would go as per
the department plans then Koti, Nada, Tarli, Tangri, Lachunband, and
Aara and adjoining routes will be connected to highway. It is also
noteworthy that department has taken up a decision to repair all damaged
roads and remove potholes on the roads by the end of this year, else it
would be difficult for the department to repair the roads when mercury
started decreasing in the near future. One of the department sources who
wished anonymity told The Pioneer, that majority of the roads in the
higher parts of the state was damaged after it was hit by the natural
calamities few months back. He claimed that all major connecting routes
and potholes on the roads will be repaired before district witness
rainfall in the coming days. He told that tenders were sought for
repairing the roads.
