DEHRADUN: A hackers group called Pakistan Haxors Crew defaced the website of the Uttarakhand department of information on Thursday night and posted 'free Kashmir' and anti-India slogans.
The hackers in January this year had run through the Indian Railways website, and last year the AIADMK's webpage.
Their latest target was the site, http://www.uttarainformation.gov.in/, which they hacked around 8pm and posted messages like "Free Kashmir", "Free Syria", "Stop Spying" and "Stop Killing Muslims".
The hackers also left a note that said: "Feel the power of Pakistan Haxors Crew." The messages were visible for several hours till the website was pulled down, it will remain closed indefinitely.
The hacking has jolted the state government, which lost no time in issuing an advisory to all departments to bolster their cyber safety with immediate effect. The local police have been informed about the incident.
It was learnt that the technical maintenance and administration of the website had been outsourced to a private company, whose inefficiency caused the intrusion. Meanwhile, an internal probe of the IT department has found that it was mainly the site's home page that was hacked. "The website has been closed till the time all cyber evidence, like the server footprint of the hacker, has been retrieved," said a senior government official.
The website had the emails and phone numbers of several departments and senior officials.
After internally assessing the damage and safety procedures, state government official registered an FIR at Dalanwala police station on Friday afternoon. Apart from the local police, the cyber cell has also joined the investigation. A senior police officer said: "We are waiting for technical evidence from the private firm that was administrating the website for the department. The main task for us is to track down the server used by the hackers and its geographical location."
